Late nights

A shift that ends after midnight is still one shift.

Late-night bars welcome: a check-out pairs with the last open check-in of the same business day — a day that starts at a time you set, 05:00 by default — not the calendar date.

  • In or out is decided by the person's last open check-in: a tap on the same business day and within 18 hours of it closes it, so with the day starting at 05:00 the 02:04 tap closes the 17:58 one.
  • The hours land on the day the shift started, at the venue where it started.
  • Lateness is measured against the shift of the venue where the person tapped — 18:00 at Rusty Bar, 10:00 at KF Hamrun — unless their department has a shift of its own.

Every venue on its own terms

Each venue keeps its own hours and its own network.

One plaque per site, each with its own network address on file.

  • Plaques are bound to a venue, so the venue of a tap comes from the plaque, not from the phone.
  • A venue's address list counts only when it is narrow enough to stand for a single network; a list that is too wide is refused when you save it.
  • If a phone's NFC is off or fails on the day, the same page opens from the venue's QR code; by default a QR check-in needs the venue's network, and on a position alone it is flagged for a manager. Setting a phone up still takes one real tap on a plaque.

Covering another venue

Staff can cover any venue in the chain.

By default, a tap at another venue is judged on that venue's network and position, exactly as a tap at home would be, and its lateness is measured against that venue's shift unless the person's department has one.

  • By default the record carries a note that the tap was at another location; the employee's screen does not show it.
  • The Roll marks those days as worked at another venue, and their hours count like any others.

When someone forgets

A check-in nobody closes is not counted until a manager closes it.

  • A tap on a later business day, or more than 18 hours after it, does not close it. The tap starts a new check-in with a note — or, if they press “Not right? Clock out”, a check-out that does not close it either. Either way The Roll lists the old check-in as open and does not count it, and a manager enters the real check-out by hand.
  • The Roll says how many check-ins are open and how many check-outs have no open check-in to close, and its week's figure says it is short by them.
